Amanah Saham Wawasan 2020
Sep 2nd, 2006 by AhYap
Went to bought Amanah Saham Wawasan 2020 this morning at 8.45am (a unit trust fund that have sound performance, around 6-10% per annum). Since I already got an account opened last time, I can just take a number and wait. My number is 34. For those who didn’t have an account, they have to queue up! Heard that the person who get the 1st place came at 6.00am. A young man at position 5 came at around 7.00am.
The best of the story is not how many people are queuing up or how early they came.
There are 100 people waiting to but the fund, but only 1 person manage to buy. Not even the second person! Fund sold off immediately after the first person completes his transaction. haha.
1. There are hundred thousands other people queuing at 808 banks (Maybank, BCB & RHB) and 662 post offices in the whole country to grab the fund.
2. BACK DOOR! Those who have ‘relationship’ with the bank might have been buying even before those who use the main door. ‘Relationship’ can be bank manager’s father-in-law, bank officer’s daughter, security guard’s friend, etc. Today, they said their server is offline and is not able to enter any transaction for the first 20 mins. Offline? Maybe at the back of the office a computer has already been connected and a staff is busy entering transactions for all the back door customers. When the are ‘managed to connect’, it actually means they have finish processing all the back door transactions.
People who know how to use back door and relationship get all the tenders, loans, agreement, license, promotions, grant, sales, etc.

I want to open account for Amanah Sahama Wawasan 2020, can you help me?
Yin:
Amanah Saham Wawasan and Amanah Saham Nasional is always sold off. So you can’t buy any unless they offer more units. They have offer more units twice in the last 12 months (the latest is less than 2 months ago). So I don’t think there will be new offer soon. People like this fund because it is capital guaranteed and it is giving like 5-8% return per year. Since they compare it with FD rate of 3.7%, that looks very good. But for AhYap, that’s PATHETIC! It is OK to have volatility in exchange for better returns. Note I am saying volatility and not risk. I am not saying exchange better returns by having more risk. Warren Buffet, Charlie Munger, Tan Teng Boo, Edward Lampert, Mohnish Pabrai, is actually getting better returns by having less risk (volatility is not risk). If you buy Amanah Saham, your risk is that you will never get rich.
I truly support Ah Yap ’s Posting on the back door.Because i used it before. He he he
Do anyone know when is the next offer?
@Nie:
No idea about it. But Wawasan Nasional Malaysia is offering now. For Wawasan 2020, it has offered another once since I wrote this post few months ago. I doubt it will be soon. My last advice is – Buy ICAP! Not Wawasan.
hahahaha, really bei y. d.
What to do? good things always got ppl grab, like last time company’s IPO, 5x/8x the amount of share offered. But this one a bit different, CAN WALK BACK DOOR ONE!!! hahahaha
lets see how far this time the “20k limit” can go….. good luck everyone, don bother to go queue up at 6am or bs like that. It says will last for a week, lets see how……
How can I start to purchase the ASW2020 for the kids? Any age limitation? Since I saw a lot of parents are still purchasing the unit as at today (13.9.2007) around 11.00 this morning…
My i know how much is 1 unit of this Amanah Saham Wawasan 2020? How many units 1 person can buy?
on the 12th Sept. 07 I happen to pass by the Miri post office at about 3.00pm. I noticed that there are only 5 ot 6 person quing up to buy amanah wawasan 2020. Since the quue is not long, I joined in and I managed to open a new account and deposited RM1500.00 Then I quickly go to the bank and get some more cash and I managed to top up another RM12000.00
On the 13th Sept. 07, I went to the same post office and managed to top up another RM6500.00 without any que at all.
Just to give to a little tip, always try your luck at a small post office in a small town. Chances are better.
tq
how to get informed when it offer more units?
Bro & sis ,
I bought my ASW2020 back to year 1995. That time im under 18 years old , so need to add in my father’s name. As i remember, at that time , there is a passbook. But i realized that i’ve lost it. Anyway to proof or get back the book. So far i only have proof with the statement they sent annually. ANyway ?
Thanks
Stanley
i bought my ASW2020 back in year 1996. since that time i did’nt check the add. which is jalan sejahtera 4… but typed as jalan sejahtera only…
so every time they send year dividen ,,,i did’t get…
is it will be updated to my acc. (from year 1996 to present)
@Stanley:
I think to get a new passbook, you need to get a form from the an ASW2020 agent (such as Maybank), fill it up and stamp it at stamping office for RM10. Then then can issue you a new passbook. You don’t need to worry about losing your money, it isn’t like the old time where my grandfather thought that his money is printed on the passbook and if he lost his passbook, he lose his money. Most of my bank account and brokerage accounts only have e-statements! We are in the modern age, everything is locked down to our IDENTIFICATION, instead of paper.
@Prakash:
In some years, ASW2020 pay dividends by giving you more units. You still have those in your passbook, just update it. BUT for some years, they pay dividends by cash! They will send you check and you need to deposit the check into your bank account to get the money. So you have to check with ASW2020 agent to find out how to take back your lost dividends.
Hi All,
Last time, I also lost my pass book.
However, I manage to get back my new passbook in IPOH at bank of Amanah saham nasiona.
First you would need to report lost to the bank. Then, the bank officer will tell you to go to loyal firm somewhere in IPOH town to swear that you had been lost it unintentionaly. Off course, you need to pay the fees for that services.
Afterwards, the loyal would give the letter to show that statement in the letter are true and legal. Then, you should go back to the bank to show the officer in order to get the new passbook.
Thanks! ^~^

Dear Ahyap,
Just wondering how often they launch the Amanah Saham Wawasan2020? Is it possible to buy on the normal days, since someone could have cash out the units on normal days? Can the standing instruction to purchase on monthly basis be given to the bank to purchase the Amanah Saham Wawasan?
Hi, Ah Yap,
I’m wondering that if I could buy the ASW2020 units at any time? I have the acc book already.
You can’t buy ASW2020 anytime you want because it is fully subscribe all the time. You can only buy more when they launch new units in the future (and only if you queue 5am at the bank on the launch day). There will inform the public through major newspaper.
bought my ASW2020 back in year 1996. since that time i did’nt check the add.

Yap, please give me some comment which saham should I buy without loosing money 1? As I know all the saham must have their risk 1. But just know I realise that ASN & heard my collegue said that Wawasan 2020 very popular. It is not same with other sham will risk the money u insert. I have no idea which should be better for invest. Thanks.
I went to the bank and wanted to open accounts for my kids this morning. I was told the forms already finished and I cannot invest anymore. Even worse, I was told by the bank officer-in-charge, they only gave 20 new account for this time ASW. Hail! Last year I went to line up and in the end, I was told the units already sold out. I want to invest too because the the divident is guaranteed. But how many units for are really for the non-bumi, really 49%? If so, why the bank officer in charge told me only 20 new account for a town not very big but definitely not small too? Pleaselah?
How many unis ASW are actually open for the non-bumis? I went to the bank and asked for forms, they said finished. I asked how many new accounts? 20. Commonlah, you expect only 20 new accounts for each agent bank? Who is the man behind distribute in this way? I want to invest also. Previous year, I queue but not even the form I could get. This year, the same thing happen. The Bank officer-in-charge told west malaysia will not be like this, but I read the newspaper this morning, they lined up as early as 5:00 am. Common give more! If not, better don’t give, I don’t believe absolute fairness but it must have relative fairness! Dear Unit distributors. I went to post office too, I could get the number but not the forms! You come out and queue like me too, see how do you feel?
HI Ahyap,

Any plan how to buy for working people? Take EL or AL or MC?
Any plan how to buy for working people? Reach at 4a.m.?
I’d like to ask let said this 27 I go to open the account with RM100 (minimum). So can I topup the money any time? They got charge us the service charge or not if I topup the money?
Is this an investment or an entrapment?
Guaranteed 5-8% return per year? Is it writen in black and white?
It is so funny, instead of the rakyat getting financial aid from the government, the government is getting financial aid from the rakyat.
Time will tell soon, if those invested yesterday are suckers or suckees.
As we are getting less and less from our EPF dividend, I somehow smell some very fishy stench reeking from this all so timely ASM 2020.
which bank hv open buy ??
Hi Yap,
I’m first time want to buy wawasan 2020, what is the procedure and document? Is’t any branch of the agent bank (Maybank,CIMB & RHB) also can buy this offer?? Can we apply epf account 1 to
buy wawasan 2020?
Thanks
Regards,
Vivien
I’ve purchased ASM last Tuesday, thank God the Q wasnt long as they says cuz it was last minute announcement…but i believe the Monday Q for ASW wont be as pleasent as for ASM on the past Tuesday…so i’ve got the form early today from the nearest RHB bank, filled in, and prepare to Q up early on Monday Morning. wish me luck! and all the best to you guys who’s investing too! Cheers~
I dont have an account and i was being inform that i can only open during the day itself which is monday…Is that true???
hi there,
would to know how to apply? by cash ? if go to maybank and ask the stuff to transfer from my maybank account, does it work? advise pls
Can anyone tell me what document do i need to invest ASW2020 for my son who is disable(autism)? Do i need to bring my son go together? I really hope to give something to him when I am not around since to interest is higher than the fixed deposit. Thank you very much.
i bought ASM for my little boy last week at a post office. i was told to bring along my boy’s original & photocopies of birthcert & mykid, and my photocopy ic. i believe that it should be the same for ASW too. My son was back in hometown, but i brought along his passport for verification. i think you can explain to the desk officer should you prefer not to bring your son.
My advice, buy ASW at PNB Building at Jalan Tun Razak since they open at 8.15am. It means that your chances are even more higher than buying at MBB, CIMB, RHB or post office. For those who does not has the account, you just need to fill in the application form, bank draf or cash and photocopy of IC. Good lucks.
hi, i saw a lot of people q-up for the fund, there is alot of fund in the market is better than this why ? is any one why during this ekonomi crises there open up this Fund?
Hi mr yap can u please share with me how u open this blog?
can i know the next asw 2020 launc is when??
ASW2020
1 copy of i/c and bring along ur $$.
i just invested today at post office.
Today i go to RHB Bank & want to buy ASM 2020, the staff just give the number to the person they knew it, i wait too long & my hand also tired they also don’t give me the number, until no person to take the number then they give me. I don’t like the staff services, is too bad! Although i have take the number, but i don’t buy it. Because already 1 hour ago, just 3 person can buy it, i get number 59. I dunno i want to wait how long… so i go back to work, i don’t want to waste my time & leave.
So “snake”! Always like that
42=normally ASW 2020 = ~7% of interest, while ASM = ~6% (thru my experience).
44=it seem can apply thru EPF cz it’s stated in the form, details need to check with bank.
46 = yup ucan only open the account when new unit is open fo rsale.
47=by cash / bank draft, only when there is new unit
48=all u need is the holder to present, sign & IC photocopy.
ATT: Balance of ASMalaysia will be open to all by July09. Otw can still try ur luck at Sukuk Simpanan Rakyat = guarantee 5%.
which 1 is better ASW2020 or ASM?
hi, i manged to buy ASW2020, first time
i queue at maybank, 7:45am at one of the Maybank Branch, KL town centre. To my suprise, i manged to queue at no 2. I have 1 account to top up and 3 new account to opened. The No 1 is a lady, she has 3 to top-up and 1 new a/c to open. Bank opened at 9:15a.m., and two counters are serving the queue. means indirectly i’m also first customer. Guess, what time i walk out from the Bank, 10:15am….1 hour…i managed, this is my first time to buy wawasan 2020. I really can see the crowd starting from 9 to 9:15,…it is pointless, as the queue is establishing fast that time. and i believed that day, the most it can process is only maybe 25 customers???from 10:15 to 11:50, depend on the number of new account opened as well!!!! ait for next round!
Hello Ching,
One of my friend is a disable and understand from him that there is a special allocation fund for disable. In fact, he can purchase the fund direct from the bank counter without Q-up by showing his ‘disable card’. To get the disable card, he/she need to be registered health ministry (one time deal). Besides this, there are also other refliefs for diable, eg. tax deduction
please let me known whenever they announce ASM or ASW cause i live at oversea ( Singapore ). my e-mail address is powen157@yahoo.con.sg. thanks to whom it may concere .
I also need to know when ASM/W offer more units? How much is the fee needed to open a new account? And How much do i need to open a new account?5k?10k? Please advice me.Tq
Hi All,
Anyone know when is the next offer? I never got chance to buy it ….after i know already too late.. always get the news in the last minute..Thanks!!
I heard from my mother, amanah saham 2020 was sold out in 20min. Luckily she queue up there at 7:00am, haha, early bird always got more benifit. Don forget queue up early. Thanks!
Dear all,
The minimum investment to open or to add ASW or ASM is RM100. The next ASM open day should be 3 months after the last open day for ASM (21/05/2009), thus 21/07/2009. So, get ready for the $$. If you buy at Maybank, RHB or CIMB, remember cheque is not accepted. Only internal transfer is allowed. If you buy at ASB Office, all commercial cheques are allowed acceptable. For those who do not have ASM account, you better try your efforts to open new account since once you got the account number, you can ask anyone to top up for you. Good lucks.
Sorry, refer the previous comment, last open day for ASM should be 21/4/2009.
Dear All,
Thanks for the info, is it internal transfer mean we can transfer $$ from OTHERS bank account to ASW? or SAME bank (Means maybank to ASW).
How do i know the exactly date opening? thru newspaper?
Thanks a lot .
Ah Hii, that means if you buy ASM or ASW at this 3 ASB agent banks MBB, RHB or CIMB, they only allow you to buy by using your saving money in the respective bank account. Of course cash is allowed. So, if you have money in other banks others than above mentioned banks and you want to buy ASM or ASW, you have to transfer your money first to the ASB agent bank account before the ASM or ASW open day. If you buy at ASB office, they accept cash or any commerical bank cheques.
Actually the open day also depend on the availability of the ASM fund. Now the quota for Chinese and Indian are finished. We only can buy Bumi’s quota. If the quota for Bumi’s quota is finished too, the fund will not be opened. So, if you want to know the next open day, you have to keep calling the ASNB for latest status, the number is 03-2050 5281 (Menara PNB). If I have the latest information, I will update you all. Good Lucks.
Good news everybody, next open date for ASM will be on next Tuesday, 21/07/09. Try to grab this opportunity. Maximum investment is RM20k and minimum is RM100.
Hi Angelina,
Sorry need to ask you a question, is it ASM same with ASW2020?
It’s really a good news and opportunity for all of us….
Thank a lot..Have a nice day..(”_*)
Hi,i dont have any account yet ,but i want to buy the fund.So can anybody tell me the process of open a account+buy the fund ?
Hi
i hear some news spread that ASM for bumi will open to public, It that true !!!! on 22/07/2009.
Need informations badly.
Thanks with million smiles
Ah Hii,
Actually ASW is the first capital guaranteed fund offered by ASNB opened to non-bumis but the allocation is very small. Since the request for this type of fund is very high, after that, they launched another similiar type of fund as ASM to non-bumi. Usually bumi are not interest on ASM since they have so many choices of very high return unit turst funds to invest. They can invest ASW anytime without limitation. That is why we never have chance to buy ASW for bumi quota. The quota is always reserved for them.
For new investors, better prepare your money, photocopy of IC and filled application form before 21/07/2009.
Thanks Angelina…
angelina,
if i have asw 2020 passbook, can i buy for asm or other amanah saham using same passbook?
Or i have to open another account?
i just brought my asm just now (21/07/2009) surprisingly not much people as compare to the previous asw2020 open day. and fortunately the computer is online. reach at 8:40am got the number 34 waited till 12pm then only my turn. overall open new account take time for existing customer like me say about 8mins at the counter it’s done.
i hv a few naive question to ask all sifu out there.
1) since i’m a chinese, which fund is better for me?
2) how do other know about when is the open day? ( i only got to know when people queuing in the morning at banks)
3) what’s is the different between asm & asw2020 and the others? which is more popular?
4) what is capital guaranteed? which fund offer it & which fund don’t?
will be very grateful if someone could enlighten myself
thanking u in advance.
Amanah Saham Malaysia vs Fixed Deposit
for instance, if i withdraw my FD before the mature date i still get my interest but isn’t in full. How about ASM? it stated that it’s fisical year is 31 march, so in order to get the full interest withdraw after this date right? what happen if i withdraw 2 months earlier. Will it’s interest given too?
hi,
today 10am, i go to maybank branches, all asm sold off aldy. i missed it for few times aldy. sad.
any update for the next open for asm or asw?
Good day.
@ken, FD can get pro-rated interested for every 3 months u have. i.e if you put 1 year FD can close after 8 months you get 6 month (2 x 3 months term) interest. Amanah, you get nothing if you sell before the distribution date. All funds all similar no matter what race you are. Open day is announced in major newspaper (not AhYap’s blog even though it is ‘better than reading newspaper’). asn, asw2020, as1m, different funds but same characteristics. most funds are fixed at RM1 all the time and distribute income or more units every year so it is consided capital; guaranted. if I am right, some amanah saham have unit price like mutual fund.
@ginlee, every amanah saham has their own passbook! cannot be shared.
I arrived at PNB building about 7.15am this tuesday and found there was a long long queue. I got number 372. I heard the security guard said at 3am already got people start to queue. This can tell why banks have shorter queue.
For those who miss out the reopened ASM currently, pls watch out for “One Malaysia Unit Trust” fund. This fund will be launched within 1 month (if not mistaken) by ASNB and will be announced by our PM Najib.
Capital guaranteed fund means your capital will be secured no matter how bad is the market. At this moment only two capital guaranteed funds (ASM & ASW) launced by ASNB are opened to non-bumi. ASB (higher dividen) is reserved to bumi only. ASNB also have other products like ASG and ASN but they are not capital guaranteed funds. They are equity funds and their NAVs are fluctuated.
I am selling a lump sum of my asw2020 in order to park my $ on another faster vehicle. Who is interested to own my share? But have to wait till Merdeka Day!!
Happy Merdeka Day!
Leang Nui,
Usually ASW will distribute the dividen somewhere in August. Make sure you sell your ASW after the entitled date. If not, you get nothing. As Ah Yap said, ASW and ASM are not pro-rated type funds like FD.
You cannot transfer your ASW to others just like that. It must trade through the market just like stock.
But Yap sold his ASW2020 to his parents? Who is right? Please advise.
1Malaysia Unit Trust will be launched on next Wednesday, 5th August 2009. Capital Guranteed Fund (same type as ASM and ASW). Aimed for Malaysian aged 18 years and above. Minimum investment is 100units (1unit for RM1) and maximum is RM50,000 during offer period (30days). Fund Manager is ASNB. Agents inclued Maybank, CIMB, RHB and Pos Malaysia.
Dear all fellow Malaysia non-bumi ask yourself, Do you know what they do with your money? Do you know what is a Ponzi Scheme? Do you know why there are some many ASM? Do you know who invest these money? Do you think they will invest it profitable to pay you 7% to 8%, really? http://www.guangming.com.my/node/52664?tid=3 this is the samething
Think my friend.
8% a year? Most fund managers in the world will sacrifice their soul to get these type of performance.
My advice, do not be the last one standing when the music stop.
when i was 12 years old in 1996 my father open this asw 2020 account for me,and deposit rm300.that time this account has just launch and the advertisement was everywhere.after that,i never top up account and it went on like that…i got newsletter once a year….in 2005 we move to new place, cuz my house was burnt down.bcuz we have so many things to recover that time9,we totally forgot that we have this one account, and my family never bother either.now after 13 years,i wonder hows my saving doing.haha.i really want to check how much is the saving now.do u think i can just call the office and ask to check my balance or i have to go there?
Hi Angelina.
I did read through the news recently regarding the Amanah 1 Malaysia. it that the return is only 3.7% to 4%. Is this figure forcast
or the true value!!!!!. Can anyone revert.
a,
For lost saving book, you can go to the ASNB branches and fill up a form to get a new saving book.
Every investment has their own risk. Don’t put all eggs in one basket. If you do not have confidence on this fund but you afraid may regret one day, just invest little. I remembered when the ASW was launched in 1996, the response also quite bad but now 4.30am also got people queue to buy ASW and within few hours all sold out.
Every fund has their own advantages and disadvantages. Now the market is so volatile and for conservative investors, AS1M can be safer than other equity funds where their NAV fluctuate by the market movement.
Hi Angelina,
I have bought ASM on last month. Since the new ASM 1 Malaysia will be available on tomorrow, i`m not sure wheter to buy some or not. Heard that it`s not capital guaranteed and the interest rate is lower compare to ASM & Wawasan 2020. Is this true?
Dennis,
ASM, ASW & AS1M are not capital guaranteed funds but they are fixed price funds. The ASNB agent explained and said that not capital guaranteed mean if there is big disaster like World War III happened and the all economic collapsed, you may lose some (maybe all) of your investment capital (I think this applied to most of the unit trust products in the market).
The beauty of ASM, ASW & AS1M is they are fixed price. You buy at RM1 and you sell at RM1 too. You can sell and redeem your money on the spot (they pay cash for redemption amount less than RM10,000, if more than that they pay cheque). That’s mean you can park your money at AS1M until you find another high return investment tool. Don’t worry about the dividen, the ASNB agent told me that ASM, ASW & AS1M are pro-rated funds. You will still can your dividen even though you have sold them out before the dividen entitled date.
It is unfair to estimate the return first since the fund managers still haven’t received the money and still haven’t do the investment yet. The ASNB agent emphazised that ASM, ASW & AS1M are about the same in sense of the pattern of risk and the dividen distribution.
If I am not mistaken, until now AS1M is still available to buy. Don’t miss this opportunity, just grab little since you only can buy in this offer period. No harm to buy, if you regret, you can sell at anytime.. Good lucks.
Hi Angelina,
Apart from ” big disaster like World War III ” that would cause an investor to lose (some or all) his/her investment capital, is there any other possibilities that this investor get back less money than he/she has invested initially ?
Thank you very much.

THANKS angelina, i got my info from http://nbh.novabankinghall.com/nbh/
Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) on Wednesday (19/08/09) announced

Kepada yang ada di atas tu berikanlah jawatan anda kepada mereka yang lebih layak. I mean I just went through the whole posting of yours and it had been very good but since I’m way more of a visual learner, I found that way to be much more useful. well, let me know what you feel.
@Larry, I will need to do a plastic surgery before I am willing to do that.
Hello! Do anybody know when wawasan 2020 will open launch?
may i knows is any open launch in this year 2010? last open launch is when?
May I know what is the dividend payout for Wawasan 2020 on July 2010?
Thks.
Since financial year end for wawasan 2020 is end of August, the dividend payout should be somewhere there.
I tot Wawasan 2020 declare dividend on September 2010?
Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) on Monday (09/08/10) announced
an income distribution of 6.35 sen per unit for ASW 2020 for the year ending Aug 31, 2010 as against 6.3 sen per unit in the previous year.
All transactions of ASW 2020 at ASNB main counter, ASNB offices and agents will be suspended beginning 25/08/10 to 31/08/10 for the calculation of income distributions for the financial year ended 31/08/10. All transactions of ASW 2020 will resume as usual from 01/09/10. This suspension will not involve transactions for other unit trust funds of ASNB.
In other word, we can update our ASW2020 account book on 01/09/10.
Yesterday ASW 2020 announced within 1 or 2 weeks will be bank into our accounts? Will it bank in to our Maybank account or ASW 2020 accounts as units given?
The dividen will be reinvested. So on 01/09/2010, we can update our Wawasan 2020 account book to see the amount of the dividend.
Yesterday ASW 2020 announced within 1 or 2 weeks will be bank into our accounts? Will it bank in to our Maybank account or ASW 2020 accounts as units given?
In this case, if we want to withdraw our dividend, it will base on our unit sell. If we want to sell 100 units. If one unit is RM0.65, then we will lose of RM0.35 per unit. Kindly let us know how it works?
If our book shown the balance of RM25,000.00, can we withdraw RM24,990.00? Left the minimum balance of RM10 in the ASW 2020 account?
ASW 2020 is a fixed price fund. This mean 100units equal to RM100. You can withdraw the money at ASNB counter or agents RHB, Maybank, CIMB or also Pos Office with your ASW account book.
Anyway, all transactions of ASW 2020 at ASNB main counter, ASNB offices and agents will be suspended beginning 25/08/10 to 31/08/10 for the calculation of income distributions for the financial year ended 31/08/10. So we only can update our ASW account book on 01-09-2010.
You can withdraw all the money in the ASW2020 account. The account will still remain active.
As it is very difficult to get a chance to invest in ASW 2020 or ASM .To withdraw and leave a minimum balance of RM10 i would advise against it . Rather if you have other source fo funds like Fixed Deposits, then take from there first as it is only 2.5 to 3.75% as compared to this 5 to 6.3% from here. Fixed Deposit can deposit back anytime if you have money but not this. Once you withdraw ASM OR ASW2020 chances it is difficult to get it again It is not a any day affair like Fixed Deposit. But of course if it is for saving a life and there is no other sources to get funds you have no choice but to withdraw. Last resort. you may not be so rich as compare to other higher risks funds but at least you can sleep soundly with your pillow and at least richer than others who has nothing.
Thank you very much for your advice, Jenny Loo. Extremely appreciated for your reminder!
Below email is good for us to think before we invest in Amanah Saham products.

Subject: Fwd: ASB, ASM, ASW 2020 – Are they safe investments?
The latest govt Sukuk 1Malaysia launched few days ago on 20 May reported only received lukewarm response from the public unlike previous bonds esp. when open to the non bumis.. (bumi will not buy Tier 2 lower grade ASM/ASW).
Has all the rakyat money available been “sapu” and ” dried up” by the
all the govt bonds issued over the years or the rakyat is now smarter
not to invest in the BN govt bonds anymore?
Subject: ASB, ASM, ASW 2020 – Are they safe investments?
If you think your money is safe with government bonds and earning good interest – then read on.
If you still cannot understand this article, then read over it again and
again until you do.
If you are one of the investors and you still cannot catch the gist of
this article then you deserve to be cheated.
QUOTE FROM A READER
‘”So, the bonds will never get to be paid from the ideal profits. New
bonds will be issued to pay off earlier bonds. And this will go on and
on and on. Over time, with larger amount of bonds raised every time to cover for additional ‘nation building and development’, government debts will only continue to rise. This is what we call a Ponzi scheme”.-
If you buy these bonds, you better pray that BN wins the next election.
It’s a clever way to use your own money to threaten you to return the BN gomen, isn’t it?
Malaysia is close to bankruptcy.
The government has no more money. 2009 must have been a horrible year with little corporate taxes collected (and expected to be collected) due to the economic slowdown. Foreign investments have also slowed to a halt.
And yet Najib’s government is trying to spend their way out of the
economy. Honestly, if carried out well, government spending is a key component in driving the economy up. But not in Malaysia . The leakages are too large. As a result, the expected multiplier effects do not maximise. The money disbursed end up in the pockets of those who least deserve it instead.
2009 must go on record as the year with the largest amount of
government bonds issued. Amanah Saham this and Amanah Saham that. I don’t have the statistics but I doubt 2009 will be too far off the numero uno spot even if it does not take the top spot. All sorts of bond were raised and for the first time, take-up quotas drawn along the usual racial lines have been removed.
What does that mean? The government is simply desperate for money. The amount that they could raise from the protected and preferred Malay race have simply maxed up. That left Najib with no choice but to loan from the desperate Chinese and Indians on the pretext of equality and sharing of wealth with all in the country. And at lower rates of returns too.
Malaysians are not well read people. And I bet you that most people do not understand what a bond is apart from it being an investment
opportunity that generates interest income higher than that offered by FDs. Bonds are actually IOUs. It is a loan. When you buy a bond, you are actually lending money to the bond issuer and you get paid back upon maturity.
Upon maturity, paying back of bond money is an issue should the bond issuer (in this case the government of Malaysia ) has no money to pay.
But as the government, this can be solved via a few simple strategies
at the expense of the rakyat.
The government may raise new bonds to pay-off the earlier bonds. And this can be done over and over again. The bet by the government is that the government’s income will improve in the future and one day, these loans from the public can be paid off.
Theoretically, this sounds ideal. But do you genuinely accept that from the government of a nation whose corruption index ranking have been consistently falling to an embarrassing 57 now? Regardless of how much of the nations resources are depleted (our oil is running out by the way; palm oil isn’t that popular in the world market unless you are a sucker who believes in Utusan Malaysia ; we do not have much rubber; we ran out of tin decades ago), the profit do not go back to the rakyat but the Swiss private bank accounts of our politicians.
So, the bonds will never get to be paid from the ideal profits. New
bonds will be issued to pay off earlier bonds. And this will go on and
on and on. Over time, with larger amount of bonds raised every time to cover for additional ‘nation building and development’, government debts will only continue to rise. This is what we call a Ponzi scheme.
Read Bernie Madoff. Read cheat. Read con.
The present government is passing it’s current problem to the future
generation. An irresponsible government indeed. In developed nations, the people are able to appreciate this problem. Parliaments debate after debate on bond issuances. In Malaysia , the Prime Minister approves new bonds while he gobbles down his nasi lemak with ayam rendang and sotong sambal. The future is not his problem anyways. He has his hot seat to protect; lose it or he will get nagged to his death by the thing who sleeps next to him.
Has anyone actually thought that Najib knows that his days are
numbered and he is maximising his personal dough collection? Think
about it. Whatever he takes from the bonds will have to be paid back
by the next government. If he is not going to be the next government, paying back will not be his problem.
But whatever he does now will still be a problem for the rakyat in the future. If BN continues, it will be BN’s repayment problem. If PR
takes over, it will be PR who is faced with the same repayment
headache. The only permanent fixture is that the rakyat is at the
losing end.
Some may argue that all the government has to do is to print more
money. Yes, that is true. A learned friend of mine once said that the
government will never run out of money because it can just print more.
That is a brilliant statement. But of course it has it consequences.
The amount of paper money in circulation must correspond to the amount of gold held in reserves. If paper money exceeds the value of gold – which is what the US is facing right now – then the said currency’s value falls. Purchasing power declines. Inflation rises. And a whole lot of other negative economic terminologies.
So you see, printing money to repay government loans solves the loan issue but it brings the country to a whole new level of economic problems.
And yes, you got the message, the rakyat loses.
If you are lucky to live short enough, the problem will not be yours.
But your kids? You better leave them enough money to buy bananas at RM1 million per comb.
Additional note by author: Najib has pledged more and more spending. But with limited funds available, other government disbursements will have to be reduced. Hence, the proposed (rumoured) removal of subsidies for petrol, sugar and flour are very real. Expect electricity tariffs to go up too. Rakyat will suffer like never before. Is he not interested in getting re-elected? Does sound like Najib is taking all he can and abandoning ship.

Most Chinese in Malaysia are knowledge ignorant. Especially financial knowledge. Did u check the annual report from the
http://www.pnb.com.my/ for all the asm(s)? Do you know how bad is the investment return they have? Who do you think is in charge of the investment?
Let me tell u, they are losing money right and left EVERY YEAR and
still give u 7% return. How they do it?
The answer – it’s your money. You give them RM100, they give u RM6
every year and conservatively they can do this for 12 to 16 years
before you know it. But then it’s too late for you, don’t believe me
check with the return on their annual reports. They are losing money in 90%+ of their ‘investments’ yet they can pay 7% – 8.5% to the shareholders? Where is the money come from? This is call Ponzi scam and hopefully you know how to google it.
Is this an investment or an entrapment?
Guaranteed 5-8% return per year? Is it writen in black and white?
It is so funny, instead of the rakyat getting financial aid from the
government, the government is getting financial aid from the rakyat.
Time will tell soon, if those invested yesterday are suckers or suckees.
As we are getting less and less from our EPF dividend, I somehow smell some very fishy stench reeking from this all so timely ASM (there are more, 2 more billion additional units of Amanah SahamWawasan 2020 (ASW 2020) go on sale from Monday).
Go buy la, go buy.
Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) today announced a maiden income distribution of 6.38 sen per unit for Amanah Saham 1Malaysia (AS 1Malaysia) for the financial year ending Sept 30, 2010.

Updated my son account book at Maybank, only interest from year 2005 till 2010 credited. The account was held in trust when he was under 18 years. Now he is 30 years.I notice that the dividend from 1997 till 2004 was not credited, went to the Shah Alam branch the officer said now my son must make an official claim for the dividend to the HQ.I dont remember receiving any dividend by checks for 97 till 2004.Please advice me on this.
Hi Victoria,
1) ASW, ASM and AS1M are fixed price unit trust fund but ASN price is up and down following the market price.
2) You may lose your money in ASN if the market is not doing well but at other side, you may gain more than ASW if the market is doing well.
3) According to historical tracking, ASW managed to pay interest rate more than 6% per annum and the price is always RM1/unit. However, the interest rate range for ASN is wider and the unit price is not fixed.
4) The minimum to open an ASW account is RM100.
5) For the next offer, you should refer to the newspaper. If I am not mistaken, the ASN is not full yet and you may try to buy from time to time. For ASW, ASM and AS1M, they are closed and need to wait for other offer period.
