STORY

I need a name card on 8 April (Saturday) but I need to collect it by Thursday because I am leaving Ipoh on Friday.

WEDNESDAY

Soufu has designed a namecard for both of us. So I went around the whole Ipoh for 3 hours to more than 6 shops to ’search’ and ‘research’ about name card printing. Tell you, name card seems common, but most people don’t know where to print and the knowledge behind them (plain paper, laminated, laser, digital printing, UV, blar blar BLAR). I finally settled with one shop but it is near 6pm. I brought my pen drive but they said the computer is ‘locked’ so I had to email them. I emailed them when I got home.

THUSRDAY

Because I know I will wake up late, I asked soufu to call them to followup on Thursday. He called whole day but seems like no one can really do a thing. The person in charge is not in the shop. And they didn’t seems to check mail! They just keep telling soufu that they will call him back. But of course, they didn’t.

FRIDAY

Soufu went to the shop in the morning to settle the thing. The staff said everything is ok and can begin printing.

SATURDAY and SUNDAY

Don’t know what the fuck they were doing. Also forget what the fuck I was doing too.

MONDAY (today)

I call back to follow up in the evening because I know there are always sohai in this world who can’t do a simple thing correctly (Ahem! TM-NUT Streamyx). I ask when can I get my card (before that they say I can collect in 4 days). END UP? They have not even start working on our cards! And they even tell me that the file we gave them earlier (I gave them once, soufu gave them once, so TWICE) cannot be used?!!! They ask me to resend. And they say they can’t finish printing it by Friday or Thursday because it takes 4 days.

There are always people in this world that need a BULLET in their head!

My girl friend ask me to relax and don’t go to shoot them. She is right. I should not go to shoot them. I should go and BOMB them. BOMB their whole shop!

Who else need a bullet in their head?

All TM-NUT management and technical staffs!

I did try to control my frustration on Streamyx because I understand it is due to an earthquake (natural disaster)…

But still, I am boiled…

How can TM-NUT management can be so dishonest and ignorant on their current situation. I know the situation is very bad, why not stand up and admit it clearly and let us know exactly how bad is the situation and how long would it takes to really rectify the problem? Instead, they write shits like this in their website

TM Net has taken immediate action to divert traffic through other back-up links to reduce the traffic congestion.

Some delay? SOME? SOME? May be? MAY? Why they don’t have the guts to admit it like a man? Everyone know it is a SERIOUS DELAY. not “Some Delay”!!! Tell us the truth that we need to know. You mention about back-up links, do you really have any back-up links? What kind of load can your back-up links handle? I know internet users in Malaysia is seriously affected, but I doubt Singapore is. So stop using phases like “Malaysia and other parts of Asia” but just say MALAYSIA. Because you are only responsible for Malaysia broadband, even other countries do bad doesn’t relate to you. Focus on your duty.

Rubbish. Everyone know how to write this kind of rubbish. How you assure? What is the necessary? When is soon?

When are your “further announcements”? You wrote a 240 words totally useless announcement on 27th December and I heard nothing else from you. Busy celebrating your Christmas and New Year? This is a SERIOUS RED-ALERT LEVEL EMERGENCY, and as your customers for 4 years, all I get was the 240 words from your website and the 1 minute “briefing” from 1300-88-9515?

I WANT TO KNOW THE TRUTH, THE WHOLE TRUTH AND NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH!

TM-NUT, the way you run your business SUCKS. You are irresponsible to your customers who pay you every month for your promised services. You are dishonest by saying something like ‘may be experiencing some delay’. Your can be ignorant because you monopolized the broadband in Malaysia and thus giving us no choice but to pay for your rubbish service only!

Countries like Singapore are affected too but not as serious as our level since not all their ‘international links’ are broken, they can still deliver their service. It looks like our TM-NUT only have one link and when it is damaged, everything is broken. I am not using the Internet for P2P or Torrent. I am not playing World Of WarCraft or Ragnarok. Nor I am watching any YouTube videos. I don’t even need to blog here (I blog here because my site is hosted in Malaysia and it is the only site I still can access to).

BUT I need to renew my domain name before 3 January 2007 before it is expired. I still can’t access my domain registrar until today…

I need to control my money in my trading account! I can’t login to my account and thus I can’t do anything… I can’t sell!

I need to do routine things online because that’s my JOB. My rice-bowl will broke if I can’t do that…

If the flood in Johor can take away life and destroyed properties… Then the rubbish TM-Net can also destroyed mine just like the flood… I am now drowning in the “virtual” flood created by TM-NET.

Because of the Taiwan earthquake, the underwater Internet cable is damaged and our Streamyx is down… at least this is a better than “a submarine has accidentally collide with on our internet cable”.

No internet for the next few days (weeks?). Take the time to relax and happy holidays to all (Christmas and New Year).

p/s Our earth is sicked now, we have unexpected flood in Johor, have unexpected Tsunami, have serious Katrina and Rita in the US, have abnormal strong wind that strike Vietnam and Philippines lately… my friend just got back from Sydney, Australia. It is Summer in Australia. The Australian told him that it is normally very hot in the summer until you have to remove your shirt but NOW it is God-Damn Cold!

Update: I’ve noticed something different and it is posted in Now 219.x is a Good IP and 60.x is Fucked Up IP. But this post remain useful as it explains to you the importance of your connected IP and how it will affect the quality of your Streamyx connection.

It is very important to know about your IP when you are using Streamyx because you will get VERY DIFFERENT connection quality if you are in different IP range.

I have been an unlucky one when come to Streamyx because I always get assigned the 219.x.x.x IP. 219 is a fuck up range that is over congested and deliver slower-than-turtle connection speed. Packet Loss are significant and loading up a page is consider fast if it can finish in 30 seconds. Sometimes it takes me 120 seconds to load up a page! Just a single page!

Once a while I will be having exceptional internet speed. Page loaded in less than 10 seconds for all sites and bandwidth test return 800kbps even to a US test server. It happens like twice a month. I thought that streamyx has fixed their fucking problem and my curse is over! Then out of curiosity, I actually want to confirm if they really have fix their fucking problem. So I actually go and DISCONNECT and reconnect. What The Fuck! My good connection is gone and I am back to the old shit days. %*(#!@#$^%

It took me a long time to actually find out what is causing this! When I am in rocket speed, I am actually connected to 218.x IP range. If I am connected to 219.x range, I am in deep shit! After knowing this, I really go and keep redialing until I can get 218.x and keep my router alive as long as possible even when I go to sleep.

This is confirm true when I try to search in the internet about this. Many people known this little secret for a long time (I am late!) and they are using this trick to get good connection. However, even knowing this trick doesn’t help much because it is very very very hard to get 218.x especially at night. I remember one night I dial almost 100 times before I can get it.
After that sohai technician went back and do a report that say my connection is ‘OK’, another staff call me to inform me the status of my report. We have a really long chat talking on points and facts. He is indeed a polite guy and not like the sohai. And it is from here that I know a lot more about streamyx problem and the IP thing. First let talk about the IP thing.

1. All streamyx users will get either 219.x, 218.x or 60.x

2. 218.x is VERY FAST because it is not streamyx line! It is actually TM-NET special dedicated line. This product is called TM Direct. I call to TM Direct and ask about the pricing. 384kbps dedicated line is RM52,000 per year and after discount is RM40,000+. He said if I subscribe I will be the first home user to do so. haha.

3. The reason we get into the 218.x is because of ‘accident’. TM-NET is working now to fix this hole and will block streamyx users for ‘accidentally’ connected to the 218.x in September/October. Damn It! By that time you can’t even get 218.x even if you redial 1,000,000 times.

4. 218.x is only use by a small amount of dedicated customers, so it is fast. 219.x is over congested by ordinary streamyx users.

5. 60.x is streamyx new IP range and many users will start getting it. It is a lot better than the 219.x and people who have 1mbps package can easily connected to this IP range. I have never get this myself! My friend do get it.

6. In the coming 2 months, most streamyx users will be directed to the 60.x IP range. The use of 219.x will be reduced.

Now let’s talk about the streamyx problem.

The guy do admit that they have problem connecting to international sites and they can’t do anything about it. So even if I bombard them will emails or keep calling, they can’t do anything (i will continue still do so to release my frustration). They say they can control the connection speed within Malaysia only, anything else is up to the foreign ISPs.

But my point is simple, if good connection can be delivered via 218.x.x.x without any problem, that simply means good connection are ARCHIEVABLE! Don’t give lame excuse and push your responsibility to foreign ISPs! The best cause for our slow connection is that TM-NET is overloading their streamyx line.

Look at this image, it is a bandwidth test to US Virginia server using the IP 218.x.x.x. The download speed is 806kbps! What a fantastic speed! This is what streamyx should be delivering on all time. This is what we are paying for!

Here you will see the same bandwidth test done to the same US Virginia server, using the same computer and modem but under fuck up 219.x.x.x IP. See the differences!

The poor result is only 49.6kbps which is lower than dial up 56.6kbps! And notice that upload speed is actually higher than download speed! My God.

Now let’s go more technical into Traceroute. Traceroute can tell us a lot of thing regarding the condition of our connection. One important thing is PACKET LOST. Which tell us the amount of data that is ‘leak’ out when it is being transfer. Let first look at the traceroute to US JP Morgan bank website using the fuck up 219. Inside the red box, you can see that large amout of data is LOST (i.e. missing in action, leak away). If 10 packet of data are sent to you but 9 is missing half way, how can you be able to get a good bandwidth?

Let’s look at the same traceroute done to the same website using the 218 IP.

Did you notice the differences? There is absolutely now data LOST and thus it can achieve a very high bandwidth!

Conclusion

Streamyx is wasting our time, money and energy. They give us a lot of frustration, stress and dissapointment. My explanation on the 219 and 218 shows that it is really TM-Net problem itself and they can’t blame the foreign ISPs.

Last point, 70,000 subscribers in Malaysia with RM88/month = 6 million ringgit. I think if we can just contribute 1 month of our streamyx fee, we can easily file a class law suit to them. Suing them OVER PROMISE and UNDER DELIVER! Suing them lying to their customers saying that they don’t have any connection problem.

TM-Net sent a sohai to my house today. This is what the sohai did.

He said, “I come here to confirm your bandwidth, please do me a bandwidth test”.

I turn on MySpeedPC and do a bandwidth test to US Viginia server and it look like this

This is consider a ‘good’ result out-of-the-bad because I get < 10kbps most of the time. And remember I am using RM88 1mbps package, that is 1024kbps!

He said, “No No, we don’t care about your bandwidth test to the US server, you need to test it at TM-NET site.” …*@#$&*!…

So I have to go to TM-Net site and do a bandwidth test. Of course I get 850kbps. I get that everyday!

I said, “What is the use of having 850kbps in Malaysia only but 10kbps when connecting to international sites?”

He answered, “We don’t care about that, we only look at bandwidth test from TM-Net site. Other than that we don’t care”.

I said, “Then why call it INTERNET and not LOCALNET or MALAYSIANET? Since we can’t connect to the international sites?”

He said, “You call TM-Net, don’t tell me anything. It has nothing to do with me”. I answered with something and before I can finish, he repeat, “You go call TM-NET, that’s not related to me.”

He then leave my house immediately. That’s less than 5 minutes total from coming to my house to leaving my house.

TM-Net! Why send a sohai to my house who just want to waste my time?

If you subscribe to 013 mobile line, and you have no problem calling other 013 BUT always disconnect when you call to 012, 016 and 019. Is That A Problem?

If you buy a car and you can drive within Ipoh without any problem BUT you cannot drive it to Penang or Kuala Lumpur. Is That A Problem?

If you pay for 1024kbps and you can connect to local sites at fast 850kbps BUT you can only connect to international sites at 20kbps. Is That A Problem?!

The SCARY Truth IS

TM-Net already know that they have slow connection problem to international sites. There is nothing new to them. It is not a secret, not a surprise and not a special isolated case to them. The management staff know it, the technicians know it, the phone operators know it. There are millions of complaints in the internet and they receive thousand of calls each day about the slow connection. We are all doing our complaint alone, on 1-to-1 basis. If you total up all these complaints, you will know that almost everyone is having problem.

The problem to the slow connection is simple - The line is over congested. They blame people for using torrents and things like that. I do think it is correct. BUT users do nothing wrong at all because Streamyx has promised the bandwidth that we pay for and they need to deliver it! They need to take into consideration all of this before promising us anything?!Now I am paying RM88 for 1024kbps but is only getting 20kbps! That’s a shame because it is slower than dial up!

They have no resolution to the problem and is unable to fix it. So they use the ‘local bandwidth test‘ and ‘by best effort only clause‘ to ’solve’ it. Telephone operators are well trained up nowadays to listen and ignore complaints (promise to do something but do nothing, kick you like a ball from here to there). Technicians are trained up to use the local bandwidth test tool and tell you, “Hey see, no problem” and then ’settle’ it in 5 minutes.

Management/Marketing team close their eyes because they are happy with the money pouring in each month (RM88 x 70,000 subscribers = RM6 MILLION). Engineers also do nothing because NOTHING CAN BE DONE, unless TM-NET really willing to allocate money to upgrade their facility.

I am having problem connecting to my site today. Usually I won’t have any problem because my site is hosted at CyberJaya (very near compare to USA). But today 90% of data packets are lost when I connect to AhYap.com! And I do not know why streamyx route my connection to Australia half way?! Pandai betul streamxy routing facility.

Oh, it takes me 30 minutes to login to my blog, upload my screen capture and write this post. Streamyx Sucks!

I paid RM88/month for 1024kbps download and see what I get for the last few weeks!!! 45.8kbps?!?!?! Even my old 56kbps analog modem is faster than my broadband!!!
