Singapore vs Malaysia - Singapore Refuse Landing of AirAsia in Their Airport
Apr 24th, 2007 by AhYap
I have a lot to say about Singapore in relation to Malaysia. Most of us has been brain-washed by our politicians and puppet-doll-newspaper to think Singapore is the BAD GUY. While Singapore might be the BAD GUY, what we didn’t notice is that Singapore is also the SMART GUY! On the other hand, Malaysia look ridiculously STUPID in many aspects.
One of the hottest topic is the refusal of the Singapore government to let AirAsia land in their airport. I hate this myself because I do hope to fly cheaply to Singapore. BUT, before you think Singapore is selfish, do you know Malaysia is doing the exact same thing in MANY MANY ways?
Truth #1
Malaysia is building the double-track train system that connect the whole peninsular. Johor government refused to let the double-track to be connected to Singapore. They want it terminated at Johor Bahru. They are afraid that most people will actually ride directly to Singapore and will not stop at Johor, thus reducing the money flow to Johor and at the same time benefit their ‘enemy’ Singapore!
Isn’t that selfish? Isn’t that the same as Singapore refusing the landing or AirAsia?
Truth #2
We are so patriotic that almost all Malaysia families that own a car will own a PROTON! We are so patriotic that we actually need to pay a lot more money to buy a lousy car just because it is ‘Made In Malaysia’. We can’t own a better Toyota at cheaper price like Thailand citizens because we have to subsidize Proton. We have to ‘love’ our country because ‘Malaysia Boleh‘ Make Car. (Proton still lose money after 20 years of operation while Mitsubishi make a lot of money by selling engines to Proton. And we still can’t make our own engine. So technically we don’t make our own car, we make our own car cover only.)
There are lots of Nissan Sentra in Malaysia. Do you know there is a model called Nissan Sunny? You can’t find one here because if it is allowed to be sold in Malaysia, it will be too cheap!
Our government has disallowed other car manufacturers to compete equally with Proton. And who pay the price? We! The drivers!
Isn’t this the same as Singapore protecting their own airline company?
Truth #3
Digi is the most well run mobile company in Malaysia, their marketing and growth outperform Maxis and Celcom (run by TM - Tak Malu). But because they are 60% foreign owned, they are not awarded the 3G license and the WIMAX license. If you are standing as a mobile user and internet user perspective, do you wish Digi could have won both licenses so we can benefit from this great company? Or you want your service provided by Tak Malu that also provide your fucked-up STREAMYX connection?
Isn’t this the same as what Singapore is doing to AirAsia? While AirAsia can benefit even Singaporeans, they choose to protect Singapore Airline instead of benefiting their own people. Our government want to make our own national car and we have to drive lousy car that is more expensive and yet more dangerous on the road because it is made by recycled Coca-Cola tin.
(At least Singapore is launching a new budget airline call Tiger Airline to benefit their people)
Truth #4
Most of us will have a Maybank account because it is the largest bank in Malaysia. So probably you must have dealt with a Maybank staff before. What kind of treatment do you get? How long do you need to wait just to place a Fixed Deposit? How long do you need to wait to apply for an ATM card?
The last time I close an FD, it took the staff 30 minutes just to serve me alone! It took me another 30 minutes to reapply my lost ATM card. And that time doesn’t include waiting for my turn! It is just the time the staff took to do my work alone while letting a lot of other customers waiting!
If you have been to a Singapore bank, you will actually thought you are in a Hotel! The bank staffs will wait for you at the entrance! They will do anything you need while you sit on the sofa reading your favorite newspaper. In Singapore, customers is the boss. In Malaysia, customers is the slave.
This is happening because Malaysia banks are over protected by the Government. Only until recently Citibank are allowed to setup a few more branches. Before this, Citibank only have 3 branches in the whole Malaysia. So again, why Government choose to protect local business, we pay the price.
Isn’t that what the Singapore government is doing to AirAsia?
— —
If Singapore Government is selfish, what about our Government? While Singapore Government might have been selfish, they have actually done a lot of great things for their people which we can only dream of! They are SELFISH but they are SMART too!
I use fucked-up Streamyx. You probably use Streamyx too. TM has a monopoly of the last mile connections. Unlike other countries, Malaysia has not passed any legislation for the unbundling of last mile connections. This gives little chance for other third party companies to compete with TMNet and has thus created an unhealthy business environment.
Look at our crime rates! We have tons of notebook thieves wandering around KL. We have tons of snatchers planning to snatch your mum’s handbag. We have tons of robbers that want to break into our house everyday.
Compare our Internet connection with Singapore!
Compare our crime rates with Singapore!
Compare our public transportation system with Singapore!
Compare our local universities with Singapore!
Compare our Ringgit Malaysia with Singapore!
Compare our Police with Singapore!
WE ARE FAR FAR BEHIND! WAKE UP MALAYSIANS! WAKE UP! We both started at the same time! We can’t blame our population and size because we will then need to compare ourself with Japan and Korea, which is even more scary!
(Japan need to recover from World War II and they don’t even speak English. Korea have to fight Communism and have their country split into half and they don’t speak English as well.)
WAKE UP MALAYSIA! Just talking ‘Malaysia Boleh’ is not enough, we have to work hard and PROOF IT!
Slightly out of the subject, but its also good to mention here that we have leaking pipes in the immigration HQ … can there be any bigger joke?
Let me add salt to the wound.Did anyone read the The Edge?In my opinion,it is a paper which is 80% propanganda and 20% truthful & researched comment.Let’s back to our main topic:Adding Salt.
Read this:
Does anyone know that compensation of RM 257.4 million will be paid to Gerbang Perdana Selatan Sdn Bhd(Consortium of Merong Mahawangsa S/B,Detik Nagasari S/B,DRB-Hicom S/B) for not building the bridge? That’s 42.9% of the contract sum of 600 million bridge.
Profit margin for construction project is about 5% to 10% only. How can the compensation be so large?Say goodbye to your tax money(which should be used to help the poor families and wealth distribution). This is not an efficient way for wealth distribution. This is wealth channelling to Little Napolean’s pocket(s)!
my comment is only on streamyx part. the service indeed sucks, for certain areas. and i’m wondering if any company dares to layout their own cable or fibre to provide broadband service. there is cases where consumer still complain to TM while actually that area served by Maxis.
Yeah, it is monopoly. As a UTM graduate, you should know the limitation of ADSL technology. But, no excuse in customer service.
Ah, BTW, I close my FD with Maybank in less than 5 minutes at the counter. Maybe because the money is not much.
hi..i just read ur post.AND im so damned agree with ur opinion!Malaysia is a nice place, there is alot of friendly people, delicious foods and alot of nice spots for traveling~~~BUT……Malaysia is great, the government is STUPID!DUN U AGREE?
the government is really really really STUPID!doing all STUPID things all these year~Just wan to create or break some really STUPID and UNNESSECERY records to show to the world that “MALAYSIA BOLEH”!!BOLEH in WHAT?BOLEH in doing all those STUPID and really FUCKING things!SUCK my BALLS u STUPID government!what do u think we pay the tax for?for u to break the really STUPID and meaningless records?DAMN YOU!!!!IT IS REALLY SUCK!
i dun mean to rude…but i really cant bear with it anymore…
im just wonder, what else can we do?to make our place better and safer than now…perhaps only GOD know..
You crack me up, Yap! I really enjoy yr insights. I totally agree with yr comments on shameless Streamyx service. How I wish they will be a competitor in broadband!! Regarding Singapore tho, I have my reservations.
While I can certainly appreciate Singapore’s efficiency & achievements, there’s are minuses that we Malaysians may not be too aware of. I studied and lived in dat hole for 10 years. I tell you — the food SUCKS, no place to go that doesn’t burn a hole in yr pocket, govt is very punitive (ie if you don’t vote for me, your housing estate get ZERO development for years and years) and very manipulative too (all legal paperwork for HDB flats - and that’s all 99% of population — have to go thru law firm owned by Lee KY). Imagine making all dat money for just photostating legal docs and putting stamps on them! And let’s don’t even talk about owning cars / houses without cutting off an arm and a leg. I tell you — over there is no green pasture also… very ciak lat and expensive place to live!
Well, just my 2 cents.
To Karr that keep yelling STUPID m’sia gov,
Gov looks stupid because people who run them, who i think are not stupid, but over-greedy and do not have wide vision. why are they taking charge of the gov, but not wiser ppl, that’s relates back to us…. the public.
Can we wrap up that indeed, its us, as public, who is stupid and lack of political awareness? hmm…
(note that i wrote *over* greedy, makan boleh, tapi jangan melampau leh…)
Hi everyone, thanks for all the comments in such a short time. I am happy that all of us know that our country are FAR behind. I have a lot of insights to share and I hope you guys will read about them. I promised that they will be interesting. Some of you have specific opinions on the topic such as Singapore Bridge, Singapore Food, Streamyx DSL, etc. I do have things to say about them too and will put them in my future blog post instead of posting in the comment here.
I just have a thought, say Malaysia achieved its independence late 30-40 years, just maybe, the country would be running by brighter minds. All these “red-eye”, “socially under-develope”, “peace” are just bad excuses as bad as the communism party.
Hi i’m new here and i read your blog occasionally…i dont think our government is stupid, in fact i think they are damn smart..all of them regardless warna kulit. They know they can makan duit when becoming politician and they are squeezing money out of us . The reason is they are not patriotic enough and they are fucking greddy. No government can run well with corrupted fuckers. I do love my country and just hope for once they will think for the sake of our country and i can proudly chant MALAYSIA BOLEH..til then just fuck those fuckers
The smartest ones become politicians to practice systemize corruptions. The smarter ones work with those through legalize projects and as for the not so smart ones, keep on inventing ways to makan duit. This is all pure business, there isn’t a fuck thing about patriotism.
Speaking of patriotism, take a look at the National service program, can’t even run properly, this is like what N no. of rounds…molesting, stealing, beating, food poisoning, hell i don’t even find it surprise if the camp is haunted.
Malaysian semua pun boleh!
The thing is, I do not expect our country to be perfect. But cmon, Proton is a NATIONAL JOKE! Compare it to Perodua, both also local but at least Perodua is not leeching on our govt for like………more than 20 years! Proton is like a son that will never leave it’s mother blouse for fear of never seeing the teats again!
Proton is a way too much of a baggage for the govt, furthermore, there is no need to have 2 national automotive players on the market and there is no overseas demand for our national cars. God knows how many downstream automotive parts & suppliers will “tutup kedai” should proton fall. Even want to sell also people not interested, so HOW?IF anyone can solve their problems, perhaps they should hire him/her as their next CEO.
not wake up malaysia… u shall throw away the 3 alphabets “sia”. Those motherfuckers seriously need to wake up. Being 65% of msian population feeding on remaining 35%’s money, but never appreciate what they’ve got. Wanna chaar ppl somemore knnccb. Know how to rape daughter, step daughter and granddaugter only, got 4 lubangs still not enuf
I couldnt agree more with the streamyx statement. Every year TM announces huge profits, but there is very little done to improve the connection(or should i say lack of connection speed). We pay RM 88 for 1mb, in singapore the basic home line is 1.5 mb and the cost is sg20-30 plus. Doesnt make any sense does it? Lets not even consider that we shouldnt convert the sg to rm because the standard of living is almost the same if we compare dollar to dollar. With rm 3000 in malaysia you can do less, than with sg 3000 in singapore. One chicken rice in sg is sg 3. One chicken rice in my is rm 4.
OKok, back to streamysuX….for people who do not play online games they may be thinking whats the big deal? I can go online just fine and surf. But the truth is the so called 1mb line for rm 88 is only 1mb if your within malaysia. When i go online to play online games, i can connect to an aussie server at 300 latency while our singapore friends connect to the same aussie server at 100 latency. What a bloody joke?!
Ermmm, multimedia super corridor? MY LANJIOU LA.
I don’t think people here in general harbors ill feelings towards singabore, far from it.
see? i call it singaBore, its obviously sour grapes, innit?
to a government and large segment of population that subscribe to the lies of NEP, singabore’s merit driven success is too glaring to them. thats all.
i have done a lot of singabore-bashing in my own blog YouTiup, but the real intention is actually to scold our own government, but you’d be surprised how literally some of my readers actually took my words.
in malaysia, NOTHING works the way a BUSINESS should work. Period. It will never change until we change the government.
Yup, couldn’t agreed with you more. NEP is Malaysia biggest conspiracy happening.I always get the feelings that our present government[does our government even understood the real "meaning" of government] policies[most] are formulated by retards ministers.
I agree that Msia has nice people, nice food, travel places, etc. But the fact that recently so many gang rapes and robberies has erupted from Msia leaves me no choice but to voice out. Seriously do you guys think back that why ain they any malay or indian victims? Are they not as pretty as chinese? And why is it that after the supposedly pay hike for police officers, the crime rate got worsened? You are right, Singapore and Msia started at the same time, how come that Singapore has prosper into a first world conuntry and yet Msia is still laggin behind? The leaders? The population? The natural resources? Singapore has no natural resources and they even have to buy water from Msia and Indo. And when Msia stop selling it, they can find their own supply somehow. Msia goverment really needs to wake up their idea once and for all. Msia has a tremendous area of growth but if they keep siding and supporting on the malays, they are not going to go far. IMHO and 2 cents worth.
Yea right, snowman, and probably your even driving a national car yourself. Yada yada.
hey guys, just read the blog and surprise2, so many different views. sometimes it’s good to hear the opinions from various places, people on one big important issue(*thats wat i think*). dun wonna blame anybody on this topic. come to think of it, hey, we are human and its ok to criticize, comments or whatsoever but sitting there and typing all those things there just won’t change anything if no actions are done. dun wait for others to do the change. change whatever we can with ourselves first. what i like in japan is that the people respect each other so much even if u r just a cleaner in the public washroom. coz they knew the hardship and the difficulties of others’ job.not everyone wants to do the job of cleaning one of the worst place in the world.n maybe we can’t be as gud as them in doing their work. wat i mean is that try putting yourselves in their shoes.understands the difficulities.all these problems, y dun be one that will bring the difference and solutions to the problems.but,i agree bout proton, kind of lack of quality. oo…something fast really need to be done with it and big. PS: this is just my opinion n hope every1 can respect it as i do for others!…
Hi guys, I am from Singapore. I need to tell you that not everything is that rosy in Singapore. Try living there and you will know. No, I am not saying that Singapore is a crappy place to live in, it’s safe, clean and you get things done (slightly faster). But it’s a place for the rich. Not for the working class. Just imagine, taking the bus service from my home to my workplace, it’s S$4.50 in total (I need to change 3 buses - 2 of which are feeder services). Yes, that S$9 per return trip. Imagine how much those cost in a month. And a lot of us don’t earn a lot.
And don’t get me started on politics in Singapore.
But anyway, a lot of us believe that the grass is always greener on the other side.
I think you are very good at writing rubbish , and its pretty obvious you are not that smart compared to all your friends. So i suggest you stop writing nonsense just to feel good and smart , when you are far from it !
All countries have its ups and downs, singapore is not exception, i live in Singapore and am a PR , so people who are here know the real truth .
Sg and MY both have its good side and bad side , and i feel lucky to have the best of both worlds.
Issue #1
they were more afraid that the train does not stop in JB and goes straight to SG as , but now there is no issue , cos train will stop in JB and SG . So u are just talking crap
Issue #2
Just because u cannot afford a toyota car does not make the gov bad. First of all car prices have come down alot in the last five years , so in case you have not noticed that , they you are a big fool. If you do not like proton , then buy a myvi
Issue #3
All governments are elected to protect its own people’s interest and not foreigners interest, so are you saying we should help foreign run companies instead? a let all local companies die !. Thank got you are not running the country or you would have sold evertying off to buy your toyota!
Issue#4
I have dealt with the local banks in SG , they are no better , you can queue for like an hour for getting simple tasks done . And the counter service is also slow. Thats why i do my banking online, In SG we do not have a choice cos its tightly controlled and we do not have better alternatives. Compared to this MY has more larger banks, so if you are pissed of with maybank - terminate ur acc and go to public bank!
the gov. is the ppl who v choice to lead us..
ppl b4 us hav make the stupid mistake on voting..
on the 8th of March 2008.. v teach them a lesson..
BUT still the lesson is not yet learn by the stupid ass..
MAKE the RIGHT choice ..
dont let our children suffer anymore..
I love my country …. BUt not the gov..
i hav make my chance.. DO U??
Singapore may not have better food than Malaysia (to some Malaysians, the food sucks just becos your taste buds are different), is small, expensive, lot of “restrictions” that people don’t like, and I do complain about the system sometimes, but overall as compared to other countries around the world, I feel safe and secure living on this island. You may be a PR or have been living in Singapore for 10 “long” years, but that doesn’t mean you know Singapore as well as the locally born Singaporeans. Anyway there are always pro and cons in the govt. Hope life gets better.
in my class (im a student) the malaysians come up to me and tell me singapore sucks everyday just because they suck more. all they can say is “where do you think singapore gets their water from? hm?” like WOW, WATER. BIG DEALLLLL. retards.
