TM-Net Streamyx IP - 219.x, 218.x and 60.x

Update: I’ve noticed something different and it is posted in Now 219.x is a Good IP and 60.x is Fucked Up IP. But this post remain useful as it explains to you the importance of your connected IP and how it will affect the quality of your Streamyx connection.
It is very important to know about your IP when you are using Streamyx because you will get VERY DIFFERENT connection quality if you are in different IP range.
I have been an unlucky one when come to Streamyx because I always get assigned the 219.x.x.x IP. 219 is a fuck up range that is over congested and deliver slower-than-turtle connection speed. Packet Loss are significant and loading up a page is consider fast if it can finish in 30 seconds. Sometimes it takes me 120 seconds to load up a page! Just a single page!
Once a while I will be having exceptional internet speed. Page loaded in less than 10 seconds for all sites and bandwidth test return 800kbps even to a US test server. It happens like twice a month. I thought that streamyx has fixed their fucking problem and my curse is over! Then out of curiosity, I actually want to confirm if they really have fix their fucking problem. So I actually go and DISCONNECT and reconnect. What The Fuck! My good connection is gone and I am back to the old shit days. %*(#!@#$^%
It took me a long time to actually find out what is causing this! When I am in rocket speed, I am actually connected to 218.x IP range. If I am connected to 219.x range, I am in deep shit! After knowing this, I really go and keep redialing until I can get 218.x and keep my router alive as long as possible even when I go to sleep.
This is confirm true when I try to search in the internet about this. Many people known this little secret for a long time (I am late!) and they are using this trick to get good connection. However, even knowing this trick doesn’t help much because it is very very very hard to get 218.x especially at night. I remember one night I dial almost 100 times before I can get it.
After that sohai technician went back and do a report that say my connection is ‘OK’, another staff call me to inform me the status of my report. We have a really long chat talking on points and facts. He is indeed a polite guy and not like the sohai. And it is from here that I know a lot more about streamyx problem and the IP thing. First let talk about the IP thing.
1. All streamyx users will get either 219.x, 218.x or 60.x
2. 218.x is VERY FAST because it is not streamyx line! It is actually TM-NET special dedicated line. This product is called TM Direct. I call to TM Direct and ask about the pricing. 384kbps dedicated line is RM52,000 per year and after discount is RM40,000+. He said if I subscribe I will be the first home user to do so. haha.
3. The reason we get into the 218.x is because of ‘accident’. TM-NET is working now to fix this hole and will block streamyx users for ‘accidentally’ connected to the 218.x in September/October. Damn It! By that time you can’t even get 218.x even if you redial 1,000,000 times.
4. 218.x is only use by a small amount of dedicated customers, so it is fast. 219.x is over congested by ordinary streamyx users.
5. 60.x is streamyx new IP range and many users will start getting it. It is a lot better than the 219.x and people who have 1mbps package can easily connected to this IP range. I have never get this myself! My friend do get it.
6. In the coming 2 months, most streamyx users will be directed to the 60.x IP range. The use of 219.x will be reduced.
Now let’s talk about the streamyx problem.
The guy do admit that they have problem connecting to international sites and they can’t do anything about it. So even if I bombard them will emails or keep calling, they can’t do anything (i will continue still do so to release my frustration). They say they can control the connection speed within Malaysia only, anything else is up to the foreign ISPs.
But my point is simple, if good connection can be delivered via 218.x.x.x without any problem, that simply means good connection are ARCHIEVABLE! Don’t give lame excuse and push your responsibility to foreign ISPs! The best cause for our slow connection is that TM-NET is overloading their streamyx line.
Look at this image, it is a bandwidth test to US Virginia server using the IP 218.x.x.x. The download speed is 806kbps! What a fantastic speed! This is what streamyx should be delivering on all time. This is what we are paying for!
Here you will see the same bandwidth test done to the same US Virginia server, using the same computer and modem but under fuck up 219.x.x.x IP. See the differences!
The poor result is only 49.6kbps which is lower than dial up 56.6kbps! And notice that upload speed is actually higher than download speed! My God.
Now let’s go more technical into Traceroute. Traceroute can tell us a lot of thing regarding the condition of our connection. One important thing is PACKET LOST. Which tell us the amount of data that is ‘leak’ out when it is being transfer. Let first look at the traceroute to US JP Morgan bank website using the fuck up 219. Inside the red box, you can see that large amout of data is LOST (i.e. missing in action, leak away). If 10 packet of data are sent to you but 9 is missing half way, how can you be able to get a good bandwidth?
Let’s look at the same traceroute done to the same website using the 218 IP.
Did you notice the differences? There is absolutely now data LOST and thus it can achieve a very high bandwidth!
Conclusion
Streamyx is wasting our time, money and energy. They give us a lot of frustration, stress and dissapointment. My explanation on the 219 and 218 shows that it is really TM-Net problem itself and they can’t blame the foreign ISPs.
Last point, 70,000 subscribers in Malaysia with RM88/month = 6 million ringgit. I think if we can just contribute 1 month of our streamyx fee, we can easily file a class law suit to them. Suing them OVER PROMISE and UNDER DELIVER! Suing them lying to their customers saying that they don’t have any connection problem.

How about satellite-based Internet service, e.g. http://www.smartmalaysia.com? The cost is much higher. However if reliable Internet access is important to a person, then it is an option.
I agree wholeheartedly with your posting here. I felt that it’s at least worth to be printed in main media. My findings has been the same during World of Warcraft playing. Most of the tm technicians dun even understand the difference between latency and wrongly associates this with bandwidth. The standard is to ask me to do the bandwidth test with their server in Klang Valley.
When I told them something’s wrong with their international line, they tell me that foreign websites are to be blamed. Don’t tell me support.intel.com or support.microsoft.com are lame sites. Don’t tell me that http://www.fileshack.com is lame as well.
Back to latencies, getting 218.x.x.x IPs enabled me to play WoW with 300-600ms latencies, which is very acceptable for gameplay. However, whenever you had to shutdown the router, and you get 219.x.x.x IPs, my pings would go upto 10,000ms. That means every action I do on my gaming, I had to wait for 10 seconds to see it happen on average. I’m so sick of it that I have to sit in front of the PC, connecting and disconnecting for 2 hours in order to get the “good” 218.x.x.x IP.
What a lame broadband provider we have. If only we can do something like filing a lawsuit against false advertising against streamyx. Anyone here with some legal expertise wanna start the ball rolling?

Yes, count me in. I have been very patient with Streamyx. It’s really been 18 months of frustrations. Just like a true Malaysian, I swallow every damn excuse that they could provide for my routine 30 complaints a day. Yes, 30 calls a day! I can remember and recognize most of the poor staff attending my calls. All of yous are right about everything being blogged here. It’s not about the money being paid to Streamyx that matters so much to me. Nobody likes to be taken for a ride. Even the TAI-SO-HAI’s, like me who paid 6 months subscription up front from the first bill received. I can still remember the day when I jumped with joy when the modem’s DSL light stopped blinking! Waited 2 days. A big jump from 56kbps to 1024kbps, u know? Still, ah……memories.

Joy turned to frustration to hate. Joy becoz my beloved Malaysia have progressed to Bband. Frustration becoz the service is a lie and hate becoz Streamyx does not have the BIG bandwidth to sell to SoHai’s like me in the first place.
I don’t have to be a tech junkie to guess what is really happening. It’s all about making money. Fast easy money. Getting the new CEO, big lavish spending on advertisements, complete overhaul of every service available before….etc.(Just the same wine, but in a different bottle). Maybe Streamyx does have the bandwidth, maybe they dont. Maybe they got the wrong advice from their marketing SIFU’s and worst of all, maybe they got the wrong set of customers, like yous and me, speed junkies! How many of yous out there actually know what is bandwidth and latency and pipelining and proxies and the other shit about optimizing our internet connection. Fair guess, anyone? Less than 10%! Thats why I am joining yous to sue them. We have to educate the others. People wont know what is a sweet crisp internet connection until they have tried it once. They wont know why they cant connect and get on line until some other Streamyx subscribing SOHAI share it on a SOHAI’S blog like this.

For the SOHAI’S that is getting slow connection:
Tip 1: Maximize your Windows standard Internet max connection to 10.
Tip 2: Disable the Windows QoS service as 20% of your bandwidth is not fully utilized as Windows want to make their Security updates downloads faster. How often is there a patch nowadays?
Tip 3: Completly disable auto update. Set it to no notification. Update it manually….1st Tuesday of the month is MS Patch day.
Tip 4: Change your ISP
Tip 5: Try the Mozilla Firefox web browser. It’s free and it will improve your browsing speed. I guarantee, if blog here to farck ME.

Finally for those of you who cant connect or often no connections, I seriously urge u to access your Bband modem settings. Enable the logging and tell me I am wrong. I am not saying I am perfectly right but there are people out there commiting cyber crime on behalf of the ISP. Less people on-line less bandwidth distributed. They do this by sending Win Nukes to your IP. Win Nukes used to be able to completely disconnect anyone on Win95/98 and though the problem was fixed by MS on XP, it doesnt work on Bband modems. They can send to a lot of IP’s at just one go. They cant cover all the range but somehow all subscribers trying to connect or already connected will be affected. Enable your modems firewall and blog here to farck me if I am wrong. U should see something like this >>>firewall: Win Nuke detected, from XXX.XX.XX.XXX to your present IP. 99% of the time, the originating source is from Malaysia. Reporting to Streamyx is a waste of time as all my e-mails come back with a farcking standard reply. A better choice would be, make a police report and keep a copy for yourself. Go to mycert.org.my and complain there. Different wine in a different bottle now.

Regarding your US Virginia server tests, i’m surprised you are saying the 218* is only getting slow download while the 219* is getting a better download. I thought the 218* is always better? Is you made a mistake of stating the IPs at the wrong places?
Sigh what can we do. Streamyx will just ignore the complaints they get because they know they are the sole and first ISP in Malaysia. They are now having the attitude of “Use it if you want, if not don’t use, we are still making money from other people (thousands of SOHAIs) who do not complain”. Thus, they will not improve until there are more competitors in the future. Sad =(

i was at my uncle’s house playing around wif his comp… and i suddenly hav d urge 2 type http://www.ipaddress.com….. n his ip is 218.xxx.xxx.xxx…. n its almost everytime i check… he’s using tat ip…. and he oni uses his line 4 like 1/2 hrs per day….. argh… the irony….
yeahhh…fuck streamxy..i also have prob with my intrnet connection a month ago.i cannot access internet for almost 3 Weeksss!!!!! the exact days are 18days.
i called the operator more than 10 times a day bcause i want to know why i still cannot access internet after i submit my prob to them.
the interesting part is all the operators told me that they have called the technician,and it is up to technician guys to solved the prob.the op told me to wait until the technician guy call me.they said tomorrow the tchnc will call me..yeahh..fuck..after a day i waited(i cannot go out) the tchnc never call me!fuckkkk technician guy!
so i call the op again to complain about that..yeahh..u want to know what the op said to me??? they said the technician had called me ONCE but no one at my home answer their call..fuck!why dun you called 2, or 3 times in case i cannot hear the ringing.

If you really want to make a difference, change your TMNET subscription from RM88 to RM66.
Monitor your Streamyx connection for 2 months, and if you never got more than 512Kb, you can save Rm22/month by downgrading.
If more people will do this, I think Streamyx will really take note. After all,
70,000 x 22 = RM 1.5Mil less revenue a month!

Hey guyz…You all should tell more ppl about this. I just sign up the RM77 promotional package (for 1 mbps)…However, the download speed is only 2-5kbps (using BitTorrent)… Therefore, i google search to know what is the problem and found this blog…
What i wanto said is, if we can tell more ppl about this (especially those auntie uncle, children, gals who dunno anything about damn bandwidth, low dl speed), then we can “save” more ppl jump into this tmnet trap!

Go to TMpoint, pick up the Termination Form, complete & submit it and tell them to go shove it up ………………………………………………………………………………………………their mother’s nearest garden tree ! Warn them that if they should black-list you for future products/services, you’d sue them for all their miserable worth !!
Am waiting for another week to see whether they open the international connections otherwise I’d terminate their big con of a service and dare them to do their worse.
Disgusting, all these promotions at pasar malam corners, shopping malls, markets and five footways !! Hi google bring me here, what i type is ‘Streamyx Sucks”. ha… btw, do you still get better speed with 218.x.x.x? As far as i know now 218 range is the same like 219, no more difference. I can get both 219 and 218 with my line and i do ping test and speed test, and there is no real difference in term of bandwidth and latecy. How ever 60 range is really shitty, luck my area will not get this IP range.
My Streamyx Connection sucks this few days too. Before this I get 1011kbps every time. Now I got about 39 kbps. What the hell is wrong? I am using the 60.x IP.

it tooks ,more than 8 months to download complaete my LINUX ISO data file ~~ and this really give me a big head bang onto it ~~~~~
at first i apply the RM 99.00 per month ~~~ and the performance really giving me a very very big dissapointted ……..
even my fren use dial-up to download a 20MB file only cost around 6 hours while i am using a BT downloader software it cost me to download around 9 hourss++ ~~~ do u imagine what the used of a broadband for ??? seems dial-up are much faster ~~~ why not i cancel the STREAMYX and use dial-up for internet ~~~ rather i use STREAMYX to download stuff ~~~~
Streamyx surely is a big cheater! When I first subscribed to Streamyx RM 66, the line is like almost every night also suffering disconnecting. And this situation had been last for 2 -3 months, and I called them for more than 5 times, then their technician only came to my house to fix the connection problem, and I was not around… After that, I was facing slow connection due to my house having 2 PCs connect to Streamyx, at that time I was totally unable to download anything, and don’t talk about playing Warcraft or any online games. Until I subscribed the RM 88 package, and it did improved a little bit, but the slow connection still happening sometimes… I also experienced for 1 week unable to connect to internet properly during Chinese New Year, when I call and ask why, they gave me the answer is PORT full!!! WTF, what are all the people doing in TMNet everyday? Waiting for call? Use your head to think to solve the problem, not think some excuses to entertain your customers….
And the slow connection happened again last night, when I called up, they said because of the Taiwan earthquake, caused the slow connection to international… AGAIN, WTF, when I connect to local game server also slow, latency is very high until my game hang…
Really fed up with Streamyx, count me in when you going to sue them.

Guys, these days, if you happen to do a speedtest on weekdays, it only gives u 26 - 30 kbps. Monday - Friday 9am to 6pm. What the fuck TM net is doing. Home users, please switch to other ISP. They reserve the bandwidth for business users. Why should we pay RM 88 per month for weekend and after hrs.
I have lodged a complaint at least once a month for the last 3 months. But TMNET pretending checking their ports. They wasting my time.

Lame or not, its the best we got, what are we going to do a mass exodus towards maxis broadband ? Hmpppft!!! that shit ain’t right too. Just hang in there, I’m getting off the hook, cause i’m going to Singapore to study, aand the connection there is awesome, data centers hub have their international nodes centers there, e.g teleglobe, level(3), global crossing, and cogent. I envy those youtube videos by Bittorent users showing off their speeds, in their video tutorials on how to tweak settings to get better speeds. Some of them get 10,000 KBs easy and download 20-30 files simultaneously without a hitch, but still not satisfied. streamyx sux bollox

I had just applied a DSL line at here. while i’m applied the DSL, i feel like crying on it, I can’t believe the price are almost same as malaysia TMnut, but the speed is totally different. Somemore, TMnut is implement p2p blocking technology. you won’t believe how stable and fast is the speed in here. even u apply the cheaper package at here. and about the Tmnut Services support, 90% are totaly newbie. You really can’t imagina how noob they are while they were trying to solve you problem (i believe most of streamyx users had experiance this before). Now i really enjoy using internet at here, you can download 1GByte within 20mins(i’m using 8Mbps package), watching online movie , play online game without lagggingg….you can never experiance in malaysia if you are using Tmnut services. Last question, TMnut, can u explain to me y we all pay almost same price of package, but your service is so suck? because country small? easy to control? one thing i’m sure Tmnet is earning much more then Singapora ISP provider earned. because singapora have 3 different ISP provider, singnet,starhub and M1, however malaysia only one. If Tmnet won’t able to handle this high volumn of user, please give you service to othe company which have the ability to do so. Don’t act like you are Number one, actually 99% of tmnet user know you are just Kampong Number 1.

Anyway, i got so f* pissed and go out and buy a jaring dial up… SO MUCH BETTER!!!! even though the long term cost will be higher…. so now if strymyx is f** i just dial up, the latency is about 700-900, better than streamyx 3000-15000 latency.!! malaysia boleh
actually i got same speed within these ip..no differences at all..anyway, i noticed tmnut used another ip started with 118.xx.xx which is clearly stated that they got more customer but never improve their QOS…
I also frustrated with streamyx services. What i do is cancelled my streamyx services and now I have a better connection with Celcom 3G broadband! Now I can surf anywhere with high speed connection.
